A Mindle (first syllable is “mind”) does for the mind, what a handle does for the hand; helps it grasp slippery concepts.  Five fundamental mindles are required to visualize risk and uncertainty. (table p. 47)

I Come to Bury Sigma not to Praise it. (Chapter 10)

As the son and nephew of statisticians, the author feels entitled to poke fun at what he calls “Steam Era Statistics.” Terms such as Sigma and Covariance are referred to as Red words, appear in their own distinctive font, and should not be used in polite company. Technically, a Red Word may be defined as something that cannot be uttered in a singles bar. A glossary of these terms in the back of the book is provided to protect the reader from people blowing smoke with technical jargon.
